Trump Blames Iran for Attack on Vital Saudi Oil Pipeline

US President Donald Trump has pointed the finger at Iran as likely responsible for an attack on Saudi Arabia's vital East-West Pipeline. The pipeline, which carries oil from Saudi Arabia's port of Yanbu to the Persian Gulf, was attacked by drones coming from Iraq, resulting in injuries and some damage.

The incident is another headache for Saudi Arabia, which has been backing Yemen's internationally recognized government against Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Trump said he had spoken with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he referred to as a 'good friend.'

The East-West Pipeline has become crucial for Saudi Arabia to maintain oil exports since the outbreak of the US-Iran war. The kingdom has rerouted about 5 million barrels of oil per day through the pipeline after Iran effectively shuttered the Strait of Hormuz.
