US President Donald Trump made a bombastic claim on August 30 that Iran's energy hub of Kharg Island is being 'blown to smithereens', but offered no concrete details to back up his assertion.
The White House and the US Defence Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Iranian media had no reaction to Trump's social media post.
Kharg Island handled 90% of Iran's oil exports before the US launched attacks on February 28, which would severely disrupt its energy trade and put immense pressure on its economy if it were indeed under attack.
