President Donald Trump suggested on September 13 that the US could remain in Iran and retain control of its oil reserves, echoing a strategy used in Venezuela.

The president made these comments during a press conference at the Trump International golf course in Ireland, saying 'We'll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela.'

Trump pointed out that US revenue from Venezuela has covered the costs of the war several times.

The partnership between the US and private business resulted in securing majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuela's proven oil reserves, announced in August.

Delcy Rodriguez, interim leader of Venezuela, welcomed this agreement, stating it would boost the economy and government revenue.
