Trump Depicts AI-Generated Destruction of Kharg Island in Escalating US-Iran Tensions
US President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated video on his Truth Social platform depicting Iran's strategic Kharg Island being destroyed in massive explosions. The footage, which was generated using artificial intelligence, shows an oil storage facility and an oil tanker erupting in explosions as an aircraft flies overhead.
The video appears to be a depiction of an imagined attack rather than verified footage of a real strike. Trump posted the video with the caption: 'Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT.'
However, there was no evidence that Kharg Island had actually been attacked at the time of Trump's post. The US military had carried out airstrikes against Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island hours earlier.
Larak Island is strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz, but Kharg is one of Iran's most important oil export hubs and has repeatedly figured in Trump's threats against Tehran. Kharg Island handles a substantial majority of Iran's crude shipments and is described as the nerve centre of Iran's oil export network.
Trump had previously threatened to target or seize Kharg Island during the conflict with Iran, warning that the island and Iranian oil infrastructure could be destroyed if Tehran failed to meet US demands. The latest video marks another instance of AI-generated imagery being used in the context of the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
