Trump Emboldens Canadian Right-Wing Separatists Ahead of Key Vote
President Donald Trump's administration has been accused of provoking right-wing extremists in Canada who are advocating for Alberta to secede from its nation.
According to Politico, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent referred to Alberta as a 'natural partner for the U.S.' and mentioned the province's 'great resources' in January. This statement was made while discussing the possibility of Alberta separating from Canada.
The separatists have been fueled by resentment towards the Canadian federal government and have been supercharged by Trump's presidency, which has led to an increasingly toxic U.S.-Canada relationship.
Some Albertans believe that Trump's presidency makes their independence possible, with the United States as a ready customer for Alberta's oil and gas should they split from Canada.
