Trump Extends Pause on Strikes Against Iran's Energy Plants Until April
US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will extend a pause on attacks against Iran's energy plants until April 6, 2026. The four-week war between the US and Iran has resulted in thousands of deaths and disrupted global shipping, causing energy prices to soar by around 40%.
Trump stated during a cabinet meeting at the White House that talks with Iran were going 'very well,' despite Iranian officials claiming that a 15-point US proposal was 'one-sided and unfair.' The proposal included demands for dismantling Iran's nuclear program, curbing its missiles, and handing over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The war has also had significant economic implications, with liquefied natural gas prices spiking and nitrogen-based fertilizers rising by around 50%. Trump suggested that Iran let 10 oil tankers transit the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture in negotiations, including some Pakistan-flagged vessels.
