Trump Eyes Iranian Oil Stake Amid Ongoing Conflict
President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could remain in Iran to 'keep the oil', comparing it to the country's deal with Venezuela. Speaking on Sunday, Trump stated that the US could stay and keep Iranian oil unless they decide otherwise, likening it to their agreement with Venezuela.
The comments come as the war between the US and Iran continues to drive up fuel prices in the US. The national average reached $4.31 a gallon on Sunday, more than $1.10 above its level a year earlier, according to AAA.
Trump's reference to Venezuela comes after his administration reached an agreement with North American Blue Energy Partners, giving the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital a 35% stake in the company. The deal allows the US to buy 20% of the company's production at cost and has the right to first refusal on the remaining production.
