Trump Eyes Iran's Oil as Strait of Hormuz Talks Stall
US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of taking control of Iran's oil reserves in case the country continues to defy Washington. The comments come as a meeting between Gulf countries and Iran on the Strait of Hormuz was postponed, citing the need for 'consensus.'
The Omani foreign minister Badr Albusaidi announced the postponement of the meeting, which had been expected to establish an Iran-Oman shipping route through the strait.
Trump said in a statement that the US could continue its campaign against Iran and take control of its oil reserves. He noted that the country's oil reserves are 'more than double America's own.'
The President also mentioned the deal with Venezuela, where the US has taken majority control of over 65 billion barrels of oil reserves in exchange for $209 billion to the state treasury.
