President Trump has floated the idea of staying in Iran and keeping its oil, suggesting that the U.S. could follow a similar approach to its deal with Venezuela.

During a recent trip to Ireland, Trump compared the notion to the agreement with Venezuela, where the U.S. purchases 20% of North American Blue Energy Partners' oil at the cost of production.

This oil is used to fill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which has been tapped in recent years to tackle rising fuel prices caused by conflicts in Iran and Ukraine.

Victoria Coates, vice president of the Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy with the Heritage Foundation, noted that taking Iranian oil could open doors to businesses entering the country and rebuilding its industry.
