Trump Floats Keeping US Involvement in Iran for Oil
US President Donald Trump has suggested that Washington could remain in Iran and retain its oil after the war, similar to the US-Venezuela deal. Speaking during a trip to Ireland for meetings and golf events, Trump said 'we'll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela.' He claimed that US revenue from Venezuela has 'paid for the war many times.'
Trump linked the Iran conflict to the US arrangement with Venezuela, where a push announced in August sought to take control of a fifth of the country's vast oil reserves. The US President also stated that he would only accept an agreement that he considered a 'right deal' and rejected the idea of settling for one that was 'no good.'
Trump maintained that Washington would not accept an agreement it deemed inadequate, adding that Iran has been calling constantly for peace talks. However, Tehran has dismissed such claims in the past.
