Trump Halts Iranian Strike Amid Proposed Ceasefire Agreement
US President Donald Trump has called off an attack on Iran as oil markets stabilize. The decision comes after a ceasefire agreement was proposed by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, which includes the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat.
Trump stated that he agreed to cancel the attack subject to being able to rapidly make a deal, citing the future benefit of the world and the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran. The US remains prepared to strike Iran forcefully, Trump emphasized.
The war between the US and Iran began on February 28, with a temporary ceasefire reached on June 17. However, it has effectively collapsed, with neither side yielding on Iran's nuclear program or shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Recently, Egypt reported that a drone struck two vessels at Damietta, causing a fire, marking the initial assault on Egyptian territory since the war began. The incident pointed to a widening conflict in the region.
