Trump Labels Strait of Hormuz 'New US Territory'
US President Donald Trump has once again made headlines for his unconventional statements. This time, he posted an image of the Strait of Hormuz on Twitter, labeling it 'new US territory'. The map includes the Strait itself, parts of Omani territory, and even the city of Dubai.
In a recent speech, Trump stated that he views the Strait as American territory and jokingly mentioned bombing Iran. The conflict between the US and Iran has been ongoing for six months, with the US imposing a military blockade on Iranian shipping and ports.
The move is seen as an attempt to put financial pressure on Iran by restricting access to the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for about one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil shipments. Trump has previously threatened to declare the Strait as US territory, sparking a rebuke from Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi, who called it 'delusions'.
