Trump Points Fingers at Iran Over Saudi Oil Pipeline Attack
US President Donald Trump has pointed to Iran as 'probably' behind an attack on Saudi Arabia's vital East-West Pipeline. The pipeline was attacked by several drones coming from Iraq on Thursday, causing injuries and some damage. The energy ministry said the pipeline had been shut down as a precautionary measure.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil resources, which have been under threat since the outbreak of the US-Iran war. The kingdom has rerouted about 5 million barrels of oil per day through the pipeline to its port of Yanbu on the Red Sea, after Iran effectively shuttered the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump made the comment during a visit to Ireland on Saturday, when asked about the incident by a reporter. He also spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he referred to as 'a good friend'. The White House said that the US was in touch with the Saudis and 'focused on protecting our core national security interests'.
