Trump Posts Fake Video Claiming Iran's Oil Infrastructure Is Being Destroyed
US President Donald Trump sparked controversy after posting an AI-generated video on Truth Social depicting explosions at Iran's Kharg Island, claiming 'Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!'. However, a US official said American forces had not targeted the island during the latest operation. The post came hours after US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island.
Kharg Island remains a critical part of Iran's oil infrastructure, with about 90% of its crude exports passing through before the war. Hamid Bovard, chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed Trump's post as 'laughable', saying oil operations on Kharg had not stopped.
Iran retaliated by launching a combined missile-and-drone attack against the King Hussein and Al-Azraq bases in Jordan, claiming to have caused 'heavy damage'. However, Jordan's military said its air-defence systems intercepted eight missiles that breached the kingdom's airspace.
Trump also declared Iran a 'Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD!', citing inflation of 300% as evidence. However, available data shows Iran's annual inflation rate reached about 66% in July, and the country still has sufficient foreign-currency resources, according to its central bank.
