US President Donald Trump sparked controversy on Sunday after posting an AI-generated video claiming that Iran's key energy hub, Kharg Island, had been 'blown to smithereens'.

The video showed a man in an aircraft overseeing explosions in an oil field and harbor, but no evidence was provided by the president.

A US official later confirmed that the military did not target Kharg Island during overnight strikes, despite Trump's claim.

Kharg Island is crucial for Iran's economy, handling around 90% of its oil exports. Taking control of it would give the US significant leverage over Iran's energy trade and put immense pressure on its economy.
