The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has led to increased tensions in the Middle East. The war started on February 28th, when President Donald Trump announced 'major combat operations' against Iran with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government, and infrastructure sites.

Despite negotiations aimed at a war-ending deal, the US and Iran have continued to exchange strikes. In August, Trump said he would launch a 'crushing economic operation' to force Tehran into submission. The US has also sanctioned 36 entities supporting Iran's aviation sector, which helps move weapons, personnel, and illicit cargo.

President Trump claimed that oil prices will drop precipitously when the US wins the war with Iran, tweeting that they would fall below $2 a gallon. Oil prices reached a six-week high on Monday, trading at over $92 per barrel in the US and nearly $97 globally.
