Trump Revives Keystone XL Hopes Amidst Ongoing Trade Talks
US President Donald Trump's recent social media post about reviving the Keystone XL oil pipeline has drawn attention amidst ongoing trade talks between the US and Canada.
The proposed pipeline, which was initially rejected by former President Barack Obama but revived by Trump, would have carried 830,000 barrels per day of oil from Alberta to the US storage hub at Cushing, Oklahoma.
Despite construction starting on the project, it was never completed after President Joe Biden revoked a key permit in 2021. The cancellation cost Canada's TC Energy billions.
The company behind Keystone XL has since spun off its crude pipelines business and proposed a new pipeline project called Prairie Connector, which would run from Alberta to Wyoming using some of the existing Keystone XL pipe.
