Trump Sanctions Threat Boosts Oil Prices Amid Ongoing Iran Supply Disruptions
Oil prices rose on Friday after US President Donald Trump threatened economic sanctions on Iran's trading partners, raising expectations of tighter supply in the coming weeks.
The Brent benchmark increased by 8 cents to $93.86 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude was up 16 cents at $86.99, both touching their highest levels since July 24 in the previous session.
According to John Kilduff, partner with Again Capital, 'sanctions have been the only thing to bring Iran to heel.'
However, Crispus Nyaga, research analyst at Empire FX, noted that the immediate impact on supply may be limited due to Iranian exports being already heavily constrained by the US naval blockade.
