Trump Seizes Control of Venezuela's Vast Oil Reserves
US President Donald Trump has announced a major deal to take control of Venezuela's vast oil reserves. The agreement, secured in partnership with private business, grants the US majority control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.
The move is aimed at reviving Venezuela's battered energy industry and providing a new source of crude to help bring down US fuel prices. Trump emphasized that the deal comes at no cost to American taxpayers.
Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves, but its production has been severely impacted by years of underinvestment, mismanagement, and sanctions. The country currently produces around 1.25 million barrels per day, far below its potential.
