US President Donald Trump shared AI-generated videos on his Truth Social platform, claiming they showed US strikes on Iran's oil hub, Kharg Island. However, Iranian officials dismissed the claims as 'laughable' and stated that conditions in Kharg are calm.
The videos allegedly depicted massive explosions at an oil storage tank and an oil tanker with an aircraft hovering over the scene. However, Reuters confirmed that the video clip showing dramatic explosions was likely synthetically generated using software that detects AI-manipulated imagery.
The US military had previously targeted Kharg Island on March 13, hitting 90 targets including naval mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers, and other military sites.
