Trump Slams Big Oil Amid Crude Price Plunge
US markets are poised to open higher, despite oil prices sliding after President Donald Trump criticized big oil companies for excessive profits. Trump said on Monday that they 'made too much money' and should give some back to the public.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.2%, while S&P 500 futures increased 0.3% and Nasdaq futures jumped 1.1%. Oil prices dropped nearly 3% early Tuesday after Trump's comments.
Trump targeted Chevron and Exxon Mobil, saying they should cut retail prices despite the higher margins reflecting energy prices that had increased after his war with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz was closed to oil tankers.
