Trump Suggests US Could Stay in Iran for Oil Control
US President Donald Trump has suggested that his country might remain in Iran to control oil reserves, drawing a comparison with Venezuela. Speaking during a trip to Ireland, Trump said that the US could 'keep the oil' in Iran like it does in Venezuela, where a recent US initiative aims to take control of a portion of the country's oil reserves.
According to Reuters, Trump expressed optimism that the conflict in Iran could conclude this year, potentially after the US midterm elections in November. He predicted that gasoline prices would 'drop like a rock' once the conflict ends.
'We'll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela,' Trump said, noting that the revenue generated by the United States from Venezuela has 'paid for the war many times.'
