Trump Threatens Iran With 'Major Military Punishment' Over Red Sea Tanker Strikes

US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with 'major military punishment' after Houthi fighters struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. The attack extended the Middle East war to a second critical shipping chokepoint and drove Brent crude above $100 a barrel for the first time since May.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that if Iran continues to support the Houthi rebels, 'the US will hold Iran responsible' and 'major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves.'

The US President also hinted at restarting major combat operations in Iran, stating he was close to a decision. This comes as oil prices surged more than 6% after the Red Sea strikes, breaking through the $100 barrier for the first time since May.
