Trump Threatens Military Punishment Over Saudi Tanker Attacks
U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to punish Iran and its Houthi allies for attacks on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, escalating the conflict in the Middle East.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for striking the ships, which were near the Saudi port of Jizan in the Red Sea, just north of Yemen. The attack caused a fire at the bow of one ship, according to Saudi state news agency SPA.
Trump said he would hold Iran accountable for any further attacks by the Houthis, who are backed by Iran. He warned that major military punishment would be inflicted upon Iran and the Houthi fighters if they continue their attacks on Saudi ships.
The attack has sent global oil prices surging, with Brent crude rising more than 6% to pierce the $100 a barrel level for the first time since May.
