Trump Threatens to Leave Iran Unless US Takes Control of Oil
US President Donald Trump has suggested that the country might exit Iran unless it takes control of its oil resources, similar to what was done in Venezuela. Speaking to the press while attending a golf tournament in Ireland, Trump stated that 'we will leave Iran, unless we decide to stay and take the oil, like in Venezuela.'
Trump compared the US's influence over Venezuela's energy sector to a success story, citing the country's economic turnaround since the US took control. He claimed that 'the Venezuelan people are very happy' and that 'jobs are being created by the thousands.'
The president also downplayed the significance of an upcoming meeting between Iran, Oman, and several Gulf countries regarding the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
