Trump's AI Fakery Sparks Controversy Over Authenticity of US Military Claims
US President Donald Trump's recent social media post has sparked controversy over its authenticity. The post showed an AI-generated video of oil storage tanks and refinery infrastructure erupting on Kharg Island, Iran.
The caption read 'Kharg Island being blown to smithereens' and was signed by the president himself. However, the Pentagon quickly issued a statement denying that American forces had bombed the island.
This is not the first time Trump has been accused of sharing fake information with his followers. In 2019, he posted a doctored map from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) showing Hurricane Dorian threatening Alabama when it was actually projected to hit further south.
Experts are warning that this trend is eroding trust in government and society as a whole.
