US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran's oil hub on Kharg Island was destroyed in an attack, citing a video of large-scale explosions. The White House and Pentagon did not immediately comment on the president's statement. The alleged strike on Kharg Island could have serious consequences for Iran's economy, as about 90% of its oil exports pass through the island.

Kharg Island is a crucial hub for Iran's oil exports, with Brent crude prices jumping 1.6% to nearly $90 a barrel amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The US has been increasing economic pressure on Tehran, and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Reuters that new secondary sanctions against Iran and entities linked to it could be imposed weekly, targeting banks.
