Trump's Emergency Permitting Process Fast-Tracks Louisiana LNG Expansion

The Plaquemines LNG export terminal in Port Sulphur, Louisiana is seeking to expand under a new Trump administration emergency permitting process.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted fast-tracked permitting for Plaquemines LNG, reducing the public comment period from 150 days to just 10 days.

Environmentalists warn that this could weaken protections for wetlands and waterways, as the expansion could damage up to 470 acres of wetlands.

The $18 billion project has been criticized for potentially conflicting with the stated goal of boosting domestic energy supply, as most exports go to Europe.
