Trump's Fabricated Video Fuels Tensions with Iran
US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video on his social media platform Truth Social showing the destruction of Kharg Island, a strategically vital location in Iran. The video depicts massive oil storage tanks and tankers exploding amidst widespread devastation. However, Reuters confirmed that the footage was fabricated using artificial intelligence-based image detection software.
The Iranian authorities quickly refuted these claims, with Hamid Boufard, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, stating that operations on Kharg Island were proceeding normally without interruption. He described the recent social media posts by President Trump as 'absurd' and emphasized that the operational situation on the island was calm.
Boufard stressed that attempts at media and psychological pressure to disrupt Iran's oil export operations had failed. The US president's video sparked a response from Iranian authorities, who sought to reassure international markets about the stability of their oil infrastructure.
