Trump's Fake News War: AI-Generated Video Sparks Trust Crisis
The US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video on his social media platform Truth Social, showing oil storage tanks and refinery infrastructure erupting in sequence on Kharg Island. The caption read 'Kharg Island being blown to smithereens' and was signed 'President DJT.'
However, the footage turned out to be completely fake, with experts warning that this incident may prove the ultimate betrayal of Americans' trust.
The Pentagon was forced to immediately clarify that Kharg Island, which handles most of Iran's crude exports, was not among the targets struck overnight.
This is not an isolated incident. Trump has a history of posting misleading or false information on his social media platforms, often at times of high tension and conflict. In 2019, he told the public that Alabama was likely to be hit hard by Hurricane Dorian, despite National Weather Service warnings that there would be no impacts.
Experts warn that this pattern of behavior is not just a matter of breaking trust in government but also erodes trust in society as some people swallow his claims and others don't.
