Trump's Hormuz Claim Sparks Iran Map War
US President Donald Trump sparked an online spat with Iran when he shared an image on X describing the Strait of Hormuz as 'New US Territory', circling the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. The White House later amplified the post.
Iran's Consulate General in Hyderabad responded with its own altered map, captioned 'New Territory of Islamic Republic of Iran'. The image depicted almost the entire United States as Iranian territory, except for California.
The online exchange came amid a serious dispute over who controls movement through the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz carried about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies before the war.
