Trump's Iran Remarks Spark Oil Price Plunge
Crude oil prices plummeted by 5% on August 3rd as US President Trump's announcement of a slowdown in tensions with Iran sent shockwaves through the market.
The US WTI crude oil futures for September fell by $4.33 to settle at $80.34 per barrel, while the October Brent crude oil futures contract dropped $4.16 to $83.77 per barrel, its lowest closing price since July 13th.
Finished oil products also declined, with RBOB gasoline and heating oil futures falling 4.74% and 5.33%, respectively, in September.
The market's optimism about a quick agreement between the US and Iran was short-lived as Trump publicly declared that negotiations have resumed while putting pressure on Iran to reach an agreement or face complete surrender.
