Trump's Iran Warning Sparks Oil Price Surge
Oil prices surged on Thursday to their highest level in over three weeks as tensions in the Middle East remained high. Brent crude futures rose by 2.1 percent to $93.56 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for September jumped by 2.5 percent to $88.01 a barrel.
The price increase comes after US President Donald Trump warned of 'economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale' against nations supporting Iran. This warning was seen as a move to put pressure on countries that continue to trade with Iran despite the ongoing conflict.
Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS, noted that tensions in the Middle East remain high, leaving room for further supply disruptions. Lower oil exports from the region have tightened the market once again.
