Trump's Top Economist Fails to Explain Rising Gas Prices
Kevin Hassett, head of the National Economic Council under Donald Trump's administration, appeared on Fox News to address rising gas prices. He claimed that prices are going down soon, as long as the 'can' the administration is kicking down the road can be caught.
Hassett attributed the decrease in oil flow through the Saudi pipeline to the Red Sea as a reason for lower prices, stating it's a 'short-term thing.' However, gas prices have risen over $1 from last year's levels, while diesel prices hit an all-time high on Friday.
Hassett has made similar claims in the past, attempting to downplay the economic struggles under Trump's administration. His previous statements range from saying rising gas prices are a sign of a healthy economy to telling Americans that prices just cost more now.
