TSX Rallies on Gold Prices, Materials Sector Leads Gains
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX Composite Index (.GSPTSE), rose 0.6% to 36,601.49 points on Friday.
The gain was led by mining stocks as gold prices rallied against a dollar weakened by the U.S. Treasury's bond buyback move.
The materials sector (.GSPTTMT) was up 2.7%, hitting over a five-month high.
Lithium Americas (LAC.TO), Ivanhoe Mines (IVN.TO), and Lundin Mining (LUN.TO) each advanced more than 6%.
U.S. Treasury yields resumed their climb after Wednesday's surprise bond buyback move, which provided only temporary relief from selling tied to inflation and fiscal concerns.
