TSX Surges to 36,633.12 Amid Falling Yields and Rising Gold Prices
The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) Composite Index surged to 36,633.12 on Thursday, marking its strongest single-day percentage gain in recent weeks.
The index rose by 541.51 points, or 1.50%, from Wednesday's close of 36,091.61, with the intraday high reaching 36,669.05 before easing marginally into the 16:20 GMT-4 close.
The advance was driven by a retreat in Treasury and Canadian government bond yields, which provided relief to rate-sensitive sectors such as financials and real estate-linked names on the TSX.
The energy sector, heavily weighted on the index, traded in a mixed pattern, caught between the ongoing Strait of Hormuz-related uncertainty and Thursday's modest pullback in oil prices.
