Tupi Asset Hits 4 Billion Barrel Mark in Brazil's Santos Basin
The Tupi asset in Brazil's Santos Basin has reached a significant milestone, achieving cumulative production of 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe). This achievement makes it the first asset in Petrobras' 73-year history to reach this volume. The asset began commercial production in 2010, requiring the development of new exploration models and pioneering technologies.
The Tupi asset is operated by Petrobras in partnership with Shell and Petrogal Brasil, as well as PPSA, which represents the Federal Government in the Tupi Shared Deposit. According to Petrobras' Director of Exploration and Production, Sylvia Anjos, production at Tupi ushered in a new era for the global oil industry.
The pre-salt area, where the Tupi asset is located, has proven to be a unique combination of large reserves, high productivity, oil with a lower carbon footprint, and above-average efficiency. The pre-salt area currently accounts for the majority of Petrobras' production, with an estimated 82% of total production coming from this region by 2030.
