Turkey Aims to Match Russian Gas Supplies with Black Sea Production

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that his country aims to increase gas production from the Black Sea, making it approach the quantities currently supplied by Russia. The goal is to double gas production capacity in the region this year.

The minister emphasized that new drilling will be carried out in the Western Black Sea, which is aimed at oil extraction. Currently, Turkey's ships for deep-sea drilling are already six, with one of them working in Somalia and another in the Black Sea as part of a program for new development.

Bayraktar explained that Turkish gas production will increase from its current level of supplying 4 million households to 8 million by the end of this year. By 2028, Turkey aims to receive a total of 16-17 billion cubic meters per year from its own reserves, which is almost as much gas as it receives from Russia.
