Turkey Ends Bread Wheat Export Ban After 16-Month Suspension

Turkey has lifted its suspension on bread wheat exports after 16 months, citing sufficient domestic production and stocks to meet food supplies. According to a statement from the Turkish Grain Board (TMO), the decision was made after assessing domestic production, existing stocks, and consumption needs.

The TMO said that export applications will be reviewed based on domestic supply conditions, with shipments conducted in a 'controlled and balanced manner'. Bread wheat and cracked wheat remain among goods subject to export registration.

Turkey has been one of the world's leading wheat flour exporters for years, with UN Comtrade data showing it exported 3.02 million metric tons worth $1.16 billion in 2024. Exports fell to about 2.34 million tons valued at $873.2 million in 2025 amid restrictions affecting the industry.
