Turkey Shifts Energy Priorities Toward Domestic Gas and Nuclear Power
Türkiye's energy plans are shifting to prioritize domestic gas and nuclear power production in response to rising demand. The country aims to increase natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field, with daily output expected to reach approximately 9.5 million cubic meters by 2026.
The commissioning of the new floating production platform Osman Gazi is anticipated to boost capacity to over 20 million cubic meters per day, meeting the needs of around 8 million households and corresponding to annual production of about 7.5 billion cubic meters. In the next stage, production is forecasted to exceed 40 million cubic meters daily.
Türkiye also targets a total installed nuclear capacity of 7.2 GW by 2035, with ongoing talks with countries possessing nuclear technology for projects in Sinop and Thrace. Site approval has been granted for the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant, while site characterization studies are continuing for the Thrace project.
