Türkiye Seeks to Double Black Sea Gas Production by Year-End

Türkiye is set to double its natural gas production in the Black Sea by year-end, according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. This increase will strengthen energy security and help reduce costly gas imports, he said.

The minister pointed out that higher domestic output would allow Türkiye to lower the price of imported natural gas. He noted that disruptions in energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz are a risk associated with dependence on external supplies, and that Türkiye's relatively low share of oil sourced through this route has so far prevented major difficulties.

Bayraktar emphasized the importance of domestic production not only for prices but also for security of supply. He mentioned that energy infrastructure had increasingly become a critical target in geopolitical conflicts, making it essential to rely on internal resources.
