Two Killed in Fresh Violence as Oil Tanker Attacked in Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz has seen another outbreak of violence, this time targeting an oil tanker on August 31. Two Filipino sailors were killed in the incident, according to Saudi Arabia's national shipping company Bahri. The attack was confirmed by Greek security firm Marisks, which said 'unknown projectiles' hit the ship.
The vessel SIDR, owned by Bahri, was transiting the Strait of Hormuz when it came under attack. Both sides in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US have been blaming each other for disrupting traffic in the strategic waterway.
Overnight from August 31 to September 1, two oil tankers were struck by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, Marisks had said. The ships were loaded with two million barrels of crude at Juaymah on Saudi Arabia's east coast last week, according to Kpler data.
