Two Years Minimum to Fix Bangladesh's Electricity, Gas Crisis: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has warned that resolving Bangladesh's electricity and gas crisis will take at least two years. Speaking at an event of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, he acknowledged that the country had inherited significant infrastructure challenges.
Chowdhury emphasized that addressing power and gas shortages cannot be done overnight, but assured that his government is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. He noted that a large amount of electricity has been generated, but transmission issues have become a major problem.
The minister highlighted that Bangladesh is moving towards an integrated energy mix, which includes renewable energy and gas-based electricity. Coal is also being considered as a resource option, and the government aims to finalize this combination in due time.
Chowdhury revealed that the government is finalizing plans for floating LNG terminals and onshore storage facilities, which will be announced within the next few days.
