U.S. Energy Dominance Surges as Global Exports Soar

The United States has solidified its position as the world's leading energy producer and exporter in 2025, according to the Energy Institute's Statistical Review of World Energy. The country supplied 93 percent of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) export growth, with a surge of 27 percent in exports reaching nearly 150 million cubic meters.

The U.S. has transformed from an LNG importer to the world's largest exporter over the past decade and a half, driven by advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing that unlocked large-scale shale production. The country remained the world's largest oil producer at 21 million barrels per day, accounting for roughly 21 percent of global output.

The report highlights the U.S.'s dominance on the world stage, with American LNG playing a central role in filling the gap left by European natural gas imports. The Energy Institute's President Andy Brown noted that energy remains at the forefront of the world's political and economic agenda, shaped by changing priorities on energy security, affordability, and sustainability.
