U.S.-Iran Diplomacy Hopes Fading, Oil Prices Soar
Oil prices have surged as hopes for a breakthrough in U.S.-Iran peace negotiations continue to fade. Brent crude futures rose by 1% to $89.40 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by 44 cents to $82.83 a barrel.
The increase is attributed to heightened concerns about geopolitical risk following the recent attacks on tankers operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. in the Strait of Hormuz and on a Saudi Aramco refinery last week.
Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran had decided not to resume talks with the United States, while President Donald Trump urged Americans to accept slightly higher gasoline prices during the ongoing conflict.
