U.S.-Iran Tensions Send Oil Prices Soaring Amid Supply Fears
Crude oil prices have surged as renewed U.S.-Iran strikes revive concerns over supply disruptions. Fawad Razaqzada, StoneX Media Market Analyst, notes that the Strait of Hormuz has returned to the forefront of oil pricing, with markets prioritizing barrels that can reach consumers now rather than those expected to arrive years from now.
Venezuela's heavy sour crude production is a multi-year project due to its higher cost and technical complexity compared to much of U.S. output. Meanwhile, U.S. strategic oil reserves are at their lowest levels in about 44 years, adding another layer of demand beneath the market.
The crude rally has already spilled over into equities, bond yields, and gold, indicating a broad market impact.
