U.S. Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Tensions
The U.S. military launched strikes against three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, after American Navy warships were targeted with missiles in the region.
According to a statement from the U.S. Central Command, the strikes were a response to multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks, and no U.S. personnel were hurt.
The military said that two of the tankers were 'permanently disabled', while the third was destroyed, as it was unladen and its crew had been directed to abandon ship.
The U.S. claimed that the tankers were part of a shadow network helping to fund Iran's Revolutionary Guard and its armed proxies in the region.
