UAE Blames Iran for Attack on ADNOC Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accused Iran of attacking one of its oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global energy supplies. The attack is the latest incident in the waterway at the center of the US-Iran conflict.
Tehran has imposed an effective blockade on the strait and has carried out strikes on commercial ships since February. Iran wants to charge users for passage, which Washington fiercely opposes.
The UAE's foreign ministry condemned what it called a 'hostile Iranian attack' that targeted a vessel affiliated with ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company). The ministry stated that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents acts of piracy by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps.
ADNOC had earlier confirmed that one of its vessels was attacked while transiting the strait on August 14, but reported no injuries. The company stressed the importance of protecting seafarers and safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime security.
