UAE on Track to Become Top Oil Producer with Output Potentially Exceeding 5 Million Bpd
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is poised to become one of the world's top oil producers, with its output potentially exceeding 5 million barrels per day (bpd) next year. The International Energy Agency (IEA) made this prediction after the UAE announced it would leave OPEC, citing a desire to prioritize production capacity expansion and maximize the value of its resources.
The UAE's oil output has been steadily increasing over the years, from 3.1 million bpd in 2016 to nearly 4.4 million bpd by 2026. The country's Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has committed $55 billion to growth projects between 2026-2030, with a target of raising oil capacity to as much as 6 million bpd if market conditions require.
Exports have remained resilient despite disruptions caused by the Iran war, thanks in part to the country's infrastructure, including the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline and storage facilities at Fujairah. ADNOC is also fast-tracking a new West-East pipeline to double export capacity and bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
