UAE Pipeline Bypassing Hormuz Hits 50% Completion Milestone
The United Arab Emirates is making progress on a new pipeline project that will bypass the Strait of Hormuz, according to ADNOC CEO Sultan Al Jaber. The West-East Pipeline project, which was directed by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed to be fast-tracked last year, has reached 50% completion.
The existing pipeline can carry up to 1.8 million barrels per day and has been crucial for the UAE's efforts to maximize exports from the Gulf of Oman coast. The new project aims to double the export capacity via the port of Fujairah by 2027.
Al Jaber emphasized that the existing Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP) has proven critical in ensuring energy supplies, and the UAE is investing in infrastructure to reduce reliance on choke points such as the Strait of Hormuz. Some ADNOC facilities have been targeted, but the assessment of damage is ongoing.
